Our first moving trip from Illinois in November 1992 after Ev retired.
We spent the winter in Florida. Our final move was in April 1993 after our
Illinois house was sold. |
The Florida home we bought in April 1992. The fireplace is used on cold days in the winter. |
We spent five months in 1994 on the Wisconsin River in this mobile home with a new addition. We enjoyed nature, fishing, and canoeing right out our back door. We would paddle from here up the river to fish at the dam at Prairie du Sac. |
The Wisconsin River location gave us the opportunity to explore the
attractions in the state. We went on several trips with one of our
canoeing clubs and with other friends and relatives. Sauk City was the
hometown of famed nature writer August Derleth, who wrote more than 150
books. |
"Where Imagination Comes to Life" - Alex J. Jordan built the house in the early 1940's on top of a 450-foot rock in Wisconsin, but the attraction now includes over 50 acres of interesting gardens, exhibits, and displays. |
One of the outstanding features of the House on the Rock is the Infinity Room which projects over the scenic Wyoming Valley for 218 feet. It has walls of glass with 3,264 windows - the only room like it in the world. A painting is shown on the right. |

Ev and John in front of the cruise ship "Regal Empress" in 1995. The
6-night cruise included Key West, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. |
Starting to climb up Dunn's River Falls just outside Ocho Rios in
Jamaica, a fantasy scenario of cascading waters down a mountain's ledge.
|
(we were equipped with snorkeling gear and hand feeding the stingrays with bits of squid) |
Grand Cayman is a peaceful British Crown colony with the highest standard of living in the Caribbean. The boat was anchored among a school of stingrays. |
Meals and snacks were constantly served day and night on the cruise. They started serving at 6:30am and continued with one meal after another until 1:00am. There would be coffee, followed by sitting and/or buffet breakfast, brunch, sitting or buffet lunch, ice cream and cookies, dinner, other buffets. |

Starting in Scottsdale, Arizona, highlights were Lake Powell, Montezuma Castle, Sedona, staying in a cabin on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and at Zion lodge. Zion has the deepest and narrowest canyons in the world. We saw porcupines and tarantulas along the trails there. |
After stays in Salt Lake City and Jackson Hole in the Grand Teton Mountains, we went rafting on the Snake River, where our river guide got bruised when going through these rapids. |
Staying at the inn overlooking Old Faithful geyser and many of the fascinating thermal features, we also had a Yellowstone guide join us for a tour of many features of Yellowstone National Park. We did a lot of hiking to see the many natural wonders, wildlife, and geological formations. |
We were fascinated by the lower falls of the Yellowstone River. Our tour guide for the whole tour was very knowledgeable, and this was the most enjoyable trip we had ever taken. From Arizona, we went through Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Colorado in 13 days. |
After Mount Rushmore, we went to the Crazy Horse Memorial near Rapid City, South Dakota. Then through Black Hills National Forest, and last stop was in Denver, Colorado. |
